Currently we are searching for a Mammography / X-Ray Technologist - BMD for a FTE role with an exceptional Radiology organization located in Chapel Hill, NC.

 

The primary function of the registered technologist is to provide diagnostic radiology procedures, mammographic imaging, and BMD procedures. The technologist is responsible for the coordination of patient care. She/He follows established protocols, policies, procedures, and specific instructions. The technologist is registered in the following modalities: Radiography, and Mammography. Rotation through all modalities, including BMD, is required.

 

General Diagnostic Duties 50%

·      Maintains standards of professional care and maintains patient confidentiality.

·      Performs ordered procedures safely, efficiently, and professionally to include all required views.

·      Assesses patient’s condition (physical and psychosocial); prioritizes needs, sets goals, and responds appropriately to meet those needs, which includes discharge teaching.

·      Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions to care rendered.

·      Administers contrast to assigned patients.

·      Responsible for set up and patient monitoring for IV Sedation cases.

·      Assists with specific tests and procedures as needed.

·      Participates in the economical utilization of supplies.

·      Assures that equipment is always maintained and available for use.

·      Assists co-workers and physicians in giving care to patients.

·      Establishes and maintains open communication.

·      Utilizes teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals.

·      Assists with / or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse occurrences in patients.

·      Maintains a clean, safe, and well-maintained supplied environment for patients and staff.

·      On regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both inside and outside the department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting other in accomplishing theirs; serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect; conducts oneself in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with team members, visitors, public and all employees.

Patient Care Activities 35%

·      Obtains initial history and assessment.

·      Completes and documents history sheets.

·      Engages with patients to ensure a positive patient experience.

·      Performs assessment that may include: Vital signs, lab value interpretation, History of recent complaint (the reason for procedure), Brief pertinent medical history, Complete list of medications and dosages if necessary

·      Other pertinent assessment facts such as LMP, medical history, weight, etc.

·      Observes and assesses patients on an ongoing basis throughout the patient visit to RRBR.

·      Assesses the patient’s physical and psychological state as well as his or her responses to the procedure.

·      Assesses and reflects the condition of the patient accurately.

·      Assesses (when appropriate) neuro checks, breath sounds, etc, as instructed by supervising Radiologist or referring MD. Notifies appropriate entity when emergency situations arise.

·      Starts emergency procedures up to and including CPR.

·      Documents assessments/changes in condition in RIS.

·      Assesses and documents patient knowledge and understanding of the procedure and aftercare, when appropriate to the procedure being performed.

·      Documents in RIS that teaching or after-care instructions provided.

·      Documents when referring MD is contacted in RIS and provides written instruction to patient to assure follow-through.

·      Follows up in appropriate time frame on condition of patients who suffer adverse reactions

·      Provides accurate information re patient history to Radiologists in order for him/her to interpret images with accuracy and proper history.

·      Be concise and accurately reflect physiological facts regarding each patient.

·      Relay reports immediately upon completion of the procedure when instructed to do so (Quick Read/Call Report)

·      Initiate communication directly with peers or other appropriate personnel relative to providing continuous quality patient care.

Safety/Infection Control 10%

·      Adheres to safety/infection control policies and procedures.

·      Reports unsafe equipment and assures follow-up.

·      Assesses patients and plans appropriately for safety/infection control.

·      Assures that all equipment necessary for the provision of care is readily available and in working order.

·      Reports incidents and unusual occurrences according to department policies.

·      Wears protective aprons, eyewear, masks, gloves, and radiation monitoring devices, as required for each procedure.

 

We are currently speaking with candidates who have:

 

·      Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and registered in mammography

·      Experience: Previous experience in a busy office or hospital is preferred.

·      Certification: CPR is required or must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment. Continuous certification in CPR is required.

·      Successful completion of the registry for Radiologic Technologists with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists must be achieved within 12 months of employment. RT-R (ARRT)

·      Successful completion of registry in Mammography with ARRT must be achieved within 12 months of employment. RT-R(M)(ARRT)

·      Basic patient care skills, including first-aid and CPR. Excellent technical skills in diagnostic, mammography, and BMD are required. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions based on patient condition, and ability to follow directions. Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism required.
